So being the big Edwards family fans that you are, I'm sure you've already checked out my scenes from a wdw vacation ... from March, 1999. Well, we're up to our old shenanigans again, I'd like to welcome you to scenes from a millennium celebration wdw vacation ...
That's right, being Walt Disney World, they always need to be hyping some big event. An anniversary, a new theme park, an animated movie ... it's always something. Well, being the eve of the new millennium (yes, I'm one of those annoying assholes who just wants to remind you all AGAIN that the millennium begins with the year 2001) Walt Disney World is celebrating in full force. And we got to go. Yippee!!
See, it turns out one of Dan's friends from his summer on the Walt Disney World College Program was getting married down in Orlando in June. Dan really wanted to go, and he knew that I could never turn down a trip to Florida, so he asked me to go with him. Getting off of work proved to be tough, so we decided a quick weekend trip would be in order. Well, a weekend that ended on Tuesday. You know how it is.
For economy's sake, we stayed at the All Star Movies resort. Now, before we left I had read all of these internet horror stories about how un-Disneylike and chinsy these resorts are. I really was expecting the worst from the place. Yeah, it's mean of me, but I was. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised. The resort was clean, staffed with nice folks, and just a bit over-the-top cheesy. Here are some pictures:
We stayed in the Fantasia building. See the big sorcerer's hat there?

What also was neat was the Fantasia/2000 building, right across the way.
It would have been cool to stay there, since the movie had just opened in real theaters that Friday.
But we didn't. We were in the old school Fantasia/1940 building.
(see this picture at a wonderful 600x400 resolution)
The also had neat toys around the Toy Story building.
Here I am in RC from Toy Story.

The rooms were nice, here we are in ours - Room 5935.
I don't know if you can tell, but the bedspreads were super-cool,
they had Dalmatians, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, the Love Bug, Mickey ...
all of the All Star Movies characters in these big blocks of crazy colors.
back to home | or forward to day one
