I found out about who I am as a person, and how much I like the Walt Disney Company (faith restored after a year or two at the Disney Store, Inc.) I now can respect all of the Disney theme parks for their subtleties, their minute little themeing qualities that I ran right by on my previous visits, and will probably run right by again next time I'm there. Like the last night of SpectroMagic for the summer, we caught the tail end of the nine o'clock show, and sat on Main Street watching people for the next two hours. It's amazing sitting on Main Street absorbing the magic in the air, there's this energy from the crowd, er ... audience and the Cast Members and the themeing - it all works magic. I love it, but can't describe it. It's waiting on the lagoon for IlluniNations after getting a pina colatta squishy from that stand over by China and Italy, near that Africa thing. The cool night air breezes over the water, and the lights dance on the waves formed by the boats making the last minute preparations on the fireworks. I really miss the chance to just sit back and take in the atmosphere.
So in the summer of 1997 I went west, seeking fame and fortune as an intern at Walt Disney Feature Animation. But that, my friends, would be the subject of a whole nother set of cheesy, half done web pages. Maybe some day ...
I leave you now with memories of Brian McKnight's "Remember the Magic" playing in your head and a picture of me and the Mouse. Thanks for the summer Mickey. It was a blast!
